CAMDEN—The Camden Harmony Grove Hornets overcame a 6-0 halftime deficit to sting the Smackover Buckaroos 31-6 at Bill Manning Field last Friday night in a game that featured good defense in the first half and a potent rushing attack in the second.
The only score of the first half came mid way through the second quarter when Smackover’s TJay Modica ran 14 yards for the Buckaroo’s only points of the night. The remainder of the first half was dominated by each team’s defense.
The second half started sluggishly for the Hornets. They went three plays and out on their first series, but their defense continued to play well keeping Smackover out of the end zone the rest of the contest.

Harmony Grove scored 31 unanswered points to sew up the victory. The first touchdown came on a 20 yard pass reception and run by Daniel Hill with 4:42 to go in the third quarter. The 2-point conversion attempt succeeded giving the home team the lead for good, 8-6.
Hill scored his second of three touchdowns at 9:32 in the fourth quarter on a ten yard run. The 2 point attempt was good extending the lead to 16-6.
Mecca Arnold scored on a 1 yard run with 4:30 to go in the contest. The 2-point conversion attempt succeeded running the lead to 24-6.
The final score came on a 57 yard run by Hill with :15 to go in the game. This time the Hornets attempted a PAT which was successful setting the final margin of 31-6.
Head Coach Ernie Horstcamp praised his team’s effort following the game. He acknowledged they couldn’t get anything going offensively in the first half, but they were able to run the ball well in the second. He was very pleased with the way his defense played throughout the contest.
The Hornets improved their season record to 3-2 overall and 2-0 in 6AAA Conference action. Smackover fell to 0-3 on the season, and 0-2 in conference play.
Harmony Grove travels to McGehee to face the Owls this Friday night. This is conference match-up, and kick-off is set for 7:00.
